Sankofa

A solo-exhibition by Jassieuo

The Sankofa exhibition will take the audience into the deeper subconscious mind of the black woman via her personal perspective & the inner/turmoil we all face as we attempt to reunite, undo and align parts of the self. expressing her art through all the tangible things that makeup the beauty of black women from braid art, clothing & a visual installation bringing the viewers into the present & past all at once.

What's true authenticity? Can you be your true self until you dive deeper into your subconscious mind? questions the artist Jasmine Durhal asked herself while exploring the creations of Sankofa, the shadow parts of ourselves help discover the places we need to embrace to love ourselves fully. sankofa (sahn-koh-fah) means "to go back & get back" "it is not taboo to go back for what you forgot (or left behind)." Durhal went on a few sabbaticals to explore ancient lands. She followed her natural-curiosity which led her to places like Cuba, Guadalupe Mexico, and ancient egypt. after a time period of spiritual root work. the artist was able to collect fragmented personal wisdom & higher perspectives of the collective consciousness.

“Sankofa, take us back to get back.”
